Simple as Sunshine

For my first post on mindfulness I am going to speak from personal experience. It is a super simple action that I do when I am feeling disconnected from the present.

Fresh air. This may seem too simple but when you are stuck, really stuck, this can be super helpful. For some people though, this may even be difficult. When I was going through a period of depression it was extremely hard for me to even leave the house. While going for a walk outside is great, if this feels difficult you can even sit by your window. When I didn’t have the energy to leave the house I would open my window, look outside and just take some deep breaths. This simple action is something that really helped calm my anxiety and intrusive thoughts. Even if you just sit by a window and breathe in some fresh air for as little as 5 minutes I found this to be super beneficial. Fresh air helps to clear the mind and looking outside at the trees and the sun helped me bring my focus back to the here and the now. If you have the energy, go for a walk. Even if it’s just around the block and back. Getting some sunshine can do wonders when you are stuck in a loop thinking about the past or the future. From personal experience, nature truly does help ground you.
